Collective-bargaining Bill passes Legislature!

Ohio Legislature approves the 5th bill to curb collective bargaining rights. State lawmakers in Ohio approved a measure Wednesday limiting the collective bargaining rights of public employees. The bill, which bans Ohio's public-sector unions from striking, is expected to be quickly signed into law by the Gov. John Kasich (R). The timing of the bill's passage means that labor organizers will have to prepare a referendum on it for November of this year, precluding it from being on the ballot in 2012, which will likely be a more favorable year for Democrats. " This isn't over" House floor democratic leader Armond Budish said.

Some say that "we will all be in great jeopardy. This bill would take away the rights of many members to negotiate for wages, health care, sick leave, dental, and other benefits. The Mayor now will be able to simply tell us what we are getting.  In fact, they could even cut wages to the current minimum wage law." They also say that "Collective Bargaining has worked well in the state of Ohio by eliminating conflict and giving public employees a voice at work."

Protesters in the Ohio Statehouse rotunda Wednesday voice objections to the collective-bargaining measure.

Congressional Cuts!

Amid a delicate dance to cut the budget in Congress, agitated religious leaders in Washington said Monday that the cuts being proposed are too deep.

Food aid for people at home and abroad, mosquito nets, and Head Start preschool programs are all on the chopping block. That, many religious leaders say, has crossed a moral line. In response, they have begun a fast - a hunger strike.

One of the advocates states:
"We've talked and talked and talked. And we've lobbied and we've reasoned and we've sent letters and we've admonished. That's why we're having the fast. It's time to call in God. It's time to unleash God," Tony Hall said.

These religious groups of Christians, Muslims and Jewish pray and hope on looking at closing tax loopholes, cutting military spending, and working to bring back the economy. They also urging the Government to not cut the funding of the poor and the hungry.

Honestly I feel that this issue is a great issue to stand up for but a hunger strike is kind of dangerous. Cuttin back on spending should be considered and talked about but not cutting back on spending for the poor and hungry. Im undecisive on where I stand on this issue. I aree in some areas and in others I stand confused.

Recent Unemployment Rates!!

Finding jobs and getting hired at a job was more convient back in the day. Now this is not as easy as it was and the unemployment rates in the United States are sky rocketing with days at a time. Unemployment surged from 18.9% at the end of January to 19.6% by mid Febuary. Increasing to about 10% within a couple of days! WOW! The unemployment rate went up 0.8% than it was this time lasst year.
Unemployment occurs when a person is available to work and currently seeking work but the persont is without work. The lower the unemployment rate is in the United States the better the economy grows! A higher rate of employment increases purchasing power of the economy resulting high growth rate and GDP.
The constant changes in employment rate is caused by technical inovation which is advancment in technology and the economic cycle which are the constant changes in dynamics of supply and demand.

Race To The Top.

The Race to the Top Education Reform, also known as R2T or RTTT is a $4.35 incentive program designed by the United States Department of Education to spurr prgressive reformsin state and local districts in K-12 education. In other words, the race to the top fund provides competitive grants to schools to encourage the importance of education. During The presidents State of the union speech Barack Obama mentions the "Race to the top  Reform" and basically says he wants to replace the "No Child Left Behind" with this.
“America will not succeed in the 21st century unless we do a far better job of educating our sons and daughters… And the race starts today.  I am issuing a challenge to our nation’s governors and school boards, principals and teachers, businesses and non-profits, parents and students: if you set and enforce rigorous and challenging standards and assessments; if you put outstanding teachers at the front of the classroom; if you turn around failing schools – your state can win a Race to the Top grant that will not only help students outcompete workers around the world, but let them fulfill their God-given potential.”
                                                                                        - President Barack Obama
                                                                                                            July 24, 2009
This relates to not only A.P government class because of its political reasoning but also relates to my education oppurtunities as a teenager attending a public school eduation.
This reform gives every child and school the oppurtunity to suceed in in life and studies beyond the classroom. These grants may help schools in sso many ways such as supplies, technology, extracurricular activities etc.

"The DREAM Act"

The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minor Act, also known as the Dream act, is a law being passed for undocumented students who were brought to the United States as minors and have attended and completed elemetary and secondary education in the U.S. The Supreme Court ruled in Plyer v. Doe that these students are not held reliable for their immigration status and therefore are entitled to public elemetary and secondary education. Unfortunately, this law does not provide citizenship of higher education for students after high school graduation. However, The "DREAM ACT" will provide these paths to success.
The Dream Act does not require states to provide any benefits to undocumented immigrant students and the Dream Act does not make these students eligible for financial aid. The Dream Act gives these student immigrants the oppurtunity to succeed in life at the same advantage as any other american and to take corrective measures to obtain legal immigration status.
The Dream Act is still in the process of being passed. President Barack Obama Passed the Dream Act. The house of representatives passed the Dream Act 216 to 198. Hopefully the Dream Act can pass and United States will not just be a mixture of two citizens but many diverse citizens working together from all over the world!!!

The State Of The Union.

On January 25, 2011 president Barack Obama gave the annual State of the Union speech to Congress. This speech gives the president the oppurtunity to give information about the nation and also tells his outline of his goals to fix the nations issues. Within Obamas speech he made a note of giving us three main steps of becoming a better economy as a whole.
The first step to becoming a better economy was Encouraging American Inovation. Meaning america's invitions such as internet, transportation, and manufactoring companies that makes american more inovative. America can spark the creativity of our people. Investing in better research and education will bring new industries and more jobs.
The second step of becoming a better economy is Good Schools and Great Education. Educating the kids of the next generation. Why?? The next ten years every job is going to require education more than just a highschool diploma but a college education so America needs to pass on knowledge to the next generation and give every child a chance of success. Even immigrants. Stop deporting children back to other countries to compete against us after recieving our education when they can benefit us in the future.
The third step to becoming a better economy is Rebuilding America. Thinking of faster more reliable ways of moving people, goods and information across shores to attract more businessess to our nation. Working harder to be that number one nation we once was. Helping to communicate from every part of america! Strenthening social security and also stopping debt. FIX WHAT NEEDS FIXING!

The Tucson Tragedy!!

On Sunday, January 8th 2011, a shooting occured in Tucson, Arizona. The gunman of the shooting was a twenty-two year man by the name of Jared Lee Loughner. Due to his outrageous behavior there were 6 deaths including a nine year old girl and a federal judge, and 13 people were reported to have been wounded and among those there were a Arizona Congresswomen Democratic Representative Gabrielle Gifford.
There were no reports found on why the gunman would commit such a crime but because of his actions he has been filed with five charges, and a possible death penalty.
Now due the Tucson Tragedy the dead issue is brought to a Gun Control problem. And the question is why are there guns being given to people like Loughner who has a mental condition and is a potential harm to others. One Person quoted that "it is as easy to buy a gun as it is to buy a latte from Starbucks!"
I do believe there should be something done about the the easy access to guns and there should be be more control over who gets them and only under certain conditions should they be used.
